INSTRUMENTAL SURVEY

Activity: Instrumental Survey

The Department organized its month long “Instrumental Survey” which was conducted by Dr. Mini Mathur of the Department of Geography for the students of the courses mentioned below:

The surveys that were dealt with are:

  • Chain and Tape Survey
  • Prismatic Compass Survey
  • Plane Table Survey
  • Theodolite

This extensive activity was conducted as part of the curriculum of the above mentioned courses in order to sensitize them towards the various survey methods employed for map preparation. The students learned to about rough sketches, field books, procedure to take observations, plotting maps and converting them to scale, drawing finished maps on paper, various sources of error and exhaustive utility of instruments used for surveying. The students surveyed various parts of the IISU campus and prepared maps. The PG students also undertook field surveying wherein they undertook primary theodolite surveying.
