DEPARTMENTAL ORIENTATION 2024-25

The orientation programme of department of Geography was organized on 14.8.2024 in C 306,
Geography lab at 11:15 am by welcoming new students of first semester. Anchoring and coordination of the
overall programme was done by Ms.Kashish Gyan Mehra (Semester five) and other third and fifth semester
students. The orientation session began with the PowerPoint presentation given by Ms.Renu Singh, Assistant
Professor, projecting faculty Profile, information about department/classes/labs, department website,
time-table, location of the department/classes/labs, departmental activities/calendar, structure of course
curricula, subject-wise credits, programme outcomes, Learning outcomes, scheme of examination (CA &
SEE), assessment and evaluation pattern, library system and online Access to make the students aware about
the department overall.
Next a speech was given by Ms.Shikha Kataria, Assistant Professor who highlighted the importance of
gaining knowledge with fun and enjoyment. This was followed by the guiding words of Head of Department,
Prof. Dr. R.S Vijayvergia. He introduced students with the importance of studying geography which will help
them gain new horizon of knowledge for getting success in life. He explained the meaning of French word
‘Bon appetit’ that means ‘Enjoy your meal’ that is implicit in every sphere of life, even in education. The three
dimensions of knowledge viz, Perception, action and will, the value of success and failure being the two facets
of same coin were all explained by him. He elucidated the significance of fighting all adversities and
converting trials into triumph using anecdotes from the lives of Maharana Pratap and Alexander the Great.
Doing by learning, importance of revision, use of libraries and artificial intelligence, Vivekananda’s
philosophy were the other points which he touched upon.
After this educative session, plethora of fun games, activities such as quiz, poem recitation were organized
for the fresher students by their seniors of department of Geography. Refreshments were provided to the
participants and winners were gifted prizes.
This informative and enjoyful orientation programme ended with the vote of thanks given by Ms.Divisha
Gupta (Semester five) and all senior students wished luck to the new students of Department of Geography.
