Objective: 

This paper helps the student to have a regional study of India learning its physiography, drainage, climate ,agriculture scenario ,industrial trends and transport.

Physical Setting: Location of India in the world context; Physiography, Drainage, Climate: Seasons, Mechanism of Indian monsoons; Tropical cyclones and western disturbances; Climatic regions; Natural vegetation.

Resources: Soil types and their distribution; Mineral and Energy resources: Distribution, utilization and conservation; livestock resources, water conservation; watershed management.

Agriculture:

Agriculture: Factors Affecting Agriculture; Infrastructure–irrigation, institutional factors–land holdings, and land reforms; land capability; agro-and social forestry; agro-climatic regions; green revolution.

 

Unit IV: 
Industry:

Industry: Evolution of industries; Factors affecting location of industries, major industrial regions, cotton, jute, iron and steel, fertilizer, paper, chemicals, automobile and cottage industries; industrial development and new industrial govt. policies (current year).
